Telemark Level 2 Qualification

Modules required for Level 2 Qualification:

Telemark Level 2 Course

Course Price: £699

This is a 10 day on-mountain training and assessment course in which Technical and Teaching skills are developed and assessed.

The Level 2 Instructor course has been designed to help you gain the skills and ability to teach people to telemark on snow. This course follows on from the Level 1 Instructor course. The course is physically demanding, as you will spend two blocks of five days involved in lectures, self study, telemark technical skiing and teaching. While it is not necessary to be an amazing athlete it does help to have a good level of personal fitness which in turn helps to reduce fatigue and the potential for injury.

On successful completion of all training, students will have developed their technical competency and understanding of the underlying principles of safe and appropriate ski teaching. Telemark Level 2 Instructors can teach Telemark skiing within the confines of a patrolled ski area only and should not lead mountain tours without another qualification. e.g. Winter Mountain Leader in the UK. Individuals who do not reach the required level may be required to resit all or part of the course.

If a candidate fails both the Teaching and Technical elements of the Level 2 course they must retake the whole 10 day level 2 course.

If a candidate fails either the Teaching or Technical element of the course, they can book onto the Level 2 re-assessment course (Technical or Teaching).

If a candidate is exempt from Teaching or Technical, they can book onto the Level 2 re-assessment course to be assessed in Technical or Teaching to complete the Level 2 qualification.

When a L2/L3 Combined course is running, members can book the first week for a technical reassessment, and the second week for a teaching reassessment. Please contact the office directly to book this.

**If the course is showing as full and you wish to only book one week, please contact the office as there may still be space available on your desired week**

35 hrs Snowsport School Experience

35 hours Snowsports School Experience is required for Level 1 Instructor Qualification. These hours ideally should be shadowing or teaching experience in a UK Snowsports centre after completing the Level 1 instuctor course. A maximum of 15 of these hours can be completed at slopes using Maxxtracks technology, such as Skiplex or Chel-ski**.

An additional 35 hours Snowsports School Experience is required for Level 2 Qualification. These hours are additional to the 35 hours completed as part of the Level 1 Qualification. The additional hours should ideally be completed after the Level 1 Qualification has been awarded and before attending the Level 2 instructor course (70 hours can be submitted to the BASI Team after completion of the Level 1 instructor course).

Students should provide a breakdown in writing of what they have covered during their Snowsport School experience, this should be on headed Snowsport School paper and be signed by the Snowsport School supervisor.

** Due to the nature of these slopes the instructor should always be mindful of how their lesson could be given on a dry slope or indoor snow slope where there are more slope users and a change of terrain (angle and underfoot conditions). Clients should be given instruction in accordance with the FIS code, particularly with regards to safety.
